The Blue Jays emphatically drew first blood as they crushed the defending champions 11-4 in Game 1 of the World Series. The Dodgers raced to an early 2-0 lead with run-driving hits from Enrique Hernandez in the second inning and Will Smith in the third. Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho leveled the score at 2-2 with a two-run blast off a pitch from Blake Snell in the 4th inning. Toronto torched the Dodgers’ pitching trio of Snell, Emmett Sheehan, and Anthony Band with a 9-run rally in the sixth inning. Shohei Ohtani tried to rally his team back into the game with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, but the deficit was just too massive for the Dodgers to overcome.

Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto – Yamamoto is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 1.16 ERA. In his last start, Yamamoto earned his first postseason complete game, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts in a 5-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Yamamoto will be facing the Blue Jays for the first time.
