Will Shohei Ohtani hit a homer for a fifth straight game?
We will find out soon as the Los Angeles Dodgers look to avoid an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday at Angel Stadium.
Ohtani hit a homer for the fourth day in a row, raising his home run tally to 43, second only to Cal Raleigh’s 45. But despite the Dodger star’s brilliance, his team has lost three games in a row and is now tied with the San Diego Padres for the best record in the NL West at 68-52. If this losing trend continues, the Dodgers could find themselves fighting for a wild-card spot instead of locking up an outright playoff berth.
The Angels, meanwhile, have won three of their last four games, including a back-to-back games against the mighty Dodgers. The offense is clicking for the Angels as of late. They are averaging 6.3 runs per game on a .243 BA in the last five games. The pitching metrics got worse, though. The Angels have held a 4.62 ERA in the season, but this number jumped up to 573 ERA in their last five games.

Ohtani will face off against LA Angels starter Kyle Hendricks, against whom he’s averaging .600 and slugging 1.400. And yes, Ohtani has already scored a homer against Hendricks, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one walk against him.
But even if Ohtani could not homer against Hendricks, he will still have a chance to do some damage against the Angels' bullpen, which carries a 5.27 ERA and allows one home run per game this season.
And did I mention that Ohtani will also be starting for the Dodgers on Wednesday? Needless to say, the three-time MVP is going to be a handful for his former team. The Angels know Ohtani’s caliber as a designated hitter, and they will do everything they can to end his menacing home run streak.
