The Los Angeles Angels (62-90 SU, 76-76 ATS) visit the Houston Astros (82-70 SU, 78-74 ATS) in a series that represents a major opportunity for the Astros. Houston has a chance to choke off any chance of Seattle coming back and winning the division by taking four straight from the Angels, who have been the textbook example of having given up.
The Angels were once at least competitive with teams that were in the playoff chase, but lately, they’ve barely bothered to show up at all. They just hosted the Astros and promptly got swept, part of a six-game losing streak that ended solely because they got to face the White Sox. The Angels have basically been going through the motions for the better part of two months now, only occasionally showing up with a decent effort.

Houston’s only focus right now is nailing down the AL West. The Astros are in a good spot at the moment, leading Seattle by five with 10 games to play. They also have Yusei Kikuchi going to the mound, and while he hasn’t always been consistent in run prevention, he usually eats enough innings to get the game to the bullpen.
Jose Suarez takes the mound for the Angels, in what will likely be a bullpen game. The Angels are trying to build up Suarez’s endurance and appear to have eyes on making a starter out of him, as they pushed him through three innings two starts ago and through the fourth inning last time out. While the Angels are at least trying new things for 2025, there’s only so much that you can force with a team that does not have an interest in the rest of 2024. And for that reason, our prediction for Los Angeles vs. Houston is Astros -1.5.
