On Wednesday evening, the WTA action in Monterrey, Mexico continues, and we have an interesting match between Linda Noskova and Tatjana Maria. This is a battle between Czech Republic and Germany, and battle in which the Czech fans should strongly fancy their representative to win. Having struggled to raise her game in both Montreal and Cincinnati, Noskova seemingly found her feet last time out, beating Lulu Sun in quite decisive fashion in the first round of this tournament. This is also a tournament that the world number 23 has a close connection with, picking up the trophy a year ago, so we really shouldn't be surprised that she turned a corner by returning to the venue.
For Tatjana Maria, it's been an up and down few weeks. The German player picked up a decent first-round win in Cincinnati, before losing comfortably to Marta Kostyuk in the second round, a defeat which suggests that she may struggle here. She did win in straight sets during the first set, which means she ought to be feeling more confident, though this demands a lot more, and personally, I'm not sure she has enough gears to seriously challenge the reigning champion.
