As things start to get rather serious at the WTA event in Monterrey, Mexico, it's time for the quarter finals. On Thursday evening, it's Czech Republic vs Russia as Linda Noskova and Ekaterina Alexandrova clash. These two players, who are separated by just nine places in the rankings, will meet competitively for the first time ever.
Alexandrova bounced back from a poor showing in Cincinnati by beating Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets last time out, winning 6-4, 6-3. That win, which was fairly routine in the end, will have boosted the confidence of the Russian competitor, who sometimes struggles when she's expected to win, so it's fair to say that she's far from guaranteed to get over the line here.
Let's be honest, she often loses matches of this nature, while Linda Noskova is in great form right now, so I really wouldn't be surprised if the world number 23 came out on top here.

I must admit that I've really liked what I've seen from Linda Noskova at this tournament.
She's made light work of defeating two decent players, which tells me that she's very ready for this test against Ekaterina Alexandrova, who despite being the higher-ranked player, hasn't been that impressive and who has a recent history of faltering in matches of this nature.
Noskova is on the up right now and I'm just not sure that Alexandrova is, so I'm siding with the Czech player to continue her run at this tournament.
