Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain and Lin Zhu of China, two surprising entrants at this year’s National Bank Open, will contest for a quarterfinal spot on Saturday in Montreal, Canada.
Bouzas Maneiro advanced to the fourth round after besting Aoi Ito in three sets 4-6 7-5 6-3, ending the Japanese’s fairy tale run in Montreal. Maneiro engaged in a back-and-forth duel with Ito that produced 10 breakpoint conversions. Maneiro took six service breaks behind 43 return points, adding 39 points off the first serves. The win allows Maneiro to reach the quarterfinals for the fourth time this year.
Lin made a quick work of Suzan Lamens 6-2, 6-2 to reach the fourth round of the 2025 Canadian Open. Ranked 493rd in the world, Lin downed a trio of top-100 players, namely Varvara Gracheva 6-4 7-6(3), Ekaterina Alexandrova 1-6 6-2 6-4, and Suzan Lamens 6-2 6-2 to move one win away from a WTA 1000 quarterfinal stint.
