Leylah Annie Fernandez of Canada will try to clinch a spot in the women’s singles final of the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open against Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan on Saturday.
Fernandez roared into the semifinal of the Washington Open with another gutsy win over Taylor Townsend of the United States 6-4 7-6(4). Roughly 24 hours after pulling off an upset over No.1 seed Jessica Pegula 6-3 1-6 7-5, Fernandez once again demonstrated poise and top-level ball striking to gut out a win over an incredibly resilient Townsend. Fernandez scored 28 points off the first serves and added 14 more off the second serves. She also converted five breakpoints behind 47 return points.
Rybakina also made it to the final four stage with a clinical win over Magdalena Frech 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Rybakina faced resistance from French in the early goings of both the first and second sets before stepping the gas pedal to pull away in the later stages of both frames. Rybakina improved her 2025 WTA season record to 31-13, including a 17-7 record on hard courts.

Our Leylah Annie Fernandez vs Elena Rybakina Prediction
Back Leylah Annie Fernandez to cover +3.5 games in her semifinal duel with Elena Rybakina, a former Wimbledon Open champion. Fernandez presents a real threat to Rybakina’s title bid in this WTA 500 event because of the Canadian’s scintillating form in the past three matches. Fernandez, who carries a career 62 percent win rate on hard courts, ousted quality opponents on her way to the semis, but none was a bigger foe than the No.1 Jessica Pegula, whom she dispatched 6-3 1-6 7-5 in the second round.
Seeing Rybakina reach the semifinal stage of this event isn’t surprising at all because of her reputation as a former Grand Slam champion and a top-level player on the tour over the past three to four years. But Fernandez is playing out of her mind right now, making her a dangerous opponent for the other three players still competing in Washington.
Our betting prediction for Leylah Annie Fernandez vs. Elena Rybakina: Leylah Annie Fernandez +3.5 Games.
