The Shanghai Masters 1000 has finally opened its doors to the Chinese public! And this Friday, 19-year-old American Learner Tien and 26-year-old Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic will face off in an attempt to qualify for the round of 32.
Learner Tien has just made a big impression at the Beijing tournament. The young player managed to reach the final of the Chinese tournament and was ultimately eliminated just short of the title by world number 2 Jannik Sinner. Benefiting from the successive withdrawals of Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals and semifinals, the American managed to eliminate world No. 21 Francisco Cerundolo in the first round. But this defeat in the final, without winning more than four games, is likely to have dented the American's confidence somewhat.
Miomir Kecmanovic, meanwhile, did not make it past the first round in Beijing, losing to top 20 player Jakub Mensik. But he was able to reach the quarterfinals in Winston-Salem and should therefore be looking to seize his chance in this tournament to reach the second round of this Masters 1000 event.
