Learner Tien of the United States is set to resume a promising rookie season, kicking off his campaign in Washington D.C against compatriot Emilio Nava in the first round of the 2025 Citi Open on Monday.
Tien is back on the hard court after holding his own during his first clay and grass court season campaigns. The 19-year-old Tien has compiled an 18-17 record in 2025 and also picked up 7 wins out of 10 matches in Grand Slam events this year. Tien is expected to make a lot of noise in the coming weeks as the ATP Tour shifts to the North American hard-court swing beginning this week. Tien sports a 92-29 record on outdoor hardcourts, including an 11-6 record on the surface in 2025.
Meanwhile, Nava will attempt to build on his quarterfinal run at the 2025 Los Cabos Open. The 23-year-old American posted wins over Aleksandar Vukic 7-6(4) 6-3 and Bu Yunchaokete 3-6 7-5 7-6(6) before falling to the No.1 seed and former ATP top-10 Alexander Rublev 5-7 6-4 6-3 in the quarterfinal of the ATP 250 event.
