Learner Tien of the United States will clash with Andrey Rublev for the second time in three weeks on Sunday in the second round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open.
Tien will be aiming for another prolific run in Cincinnati after reaching the round of 16 at the 2025 Canadian Open last week. The 19-year-old Tien has been playing beyond his years this season, posting a 24-19 record in his first full season on the ATP Tour. Tien is 17-8 in hard-court matches this year and has picked up six victories in the North American hard-court season, including a clinical 6-3 6-4 win over Leandro Reidi that sent him to the second round of this ATP 1000-level event.
Rublev has also rounded into form on the hard court these past few weeks. The top-ranked Russian opened his North American hard-court campaign with a semifinal finish at Los Cabos before picking up three wins North of the Border to reach the quarterfinal of the 2025 Canadian Open. Rublev has put together a solid hard-court campaign with deep runs in two tournaments. However, he could have made it even sweeter had he not lost in the first round of the Washington Open to teenager Learner Tien, who happens to be his next opponent.

Our Learner Tien vs Andrey Rublev Prediction
Fearless Forecast: Learner Tien pushes Andrey Rublev again to the limit to cover the spread.
Bookmakers are beginning to pay more respect to Tien, who will enter his second-round clash with a former top-10 player as a slight underdog at +150. Although the more logical move here is to pick Rublev at -185 because of his experience in many big tournaments, I strongly recommend paying close attention to Tien and his body of work this season.
Tien is 4-1 in matches against the top-10 players and 4-2 against the top-20 players this year alone. Tien has upset prominent names like Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open, Alexander Zverev in Acapulco, Ben Shelton in Malloca Open, and Rublev in the Citi Open. In short, Tien has the right set of tools to play at a high level, and I feel this American will create a lot of noise on the tour in the coming years.
Expect Tien to continue giving Rublev troubles, especially on the serve. In his second-round win over the Russian in Washington, Tien conceded only one service break as he captured 28 points off the first serves and six aces while breaking four times. He was also dominant on the serve against Reidi, winning all his serves after winning 79 percent of his first serves.
Our betting prediction for Learner Tien vs. Andrey Rublev: Learner Tien +3.5
