Here we go again! Just like last weekend in Serie A, Lazio Rome and AC Milan will face off again this Thursday. This time, they will compete in the Coppa Italia round of 16 at the Stadio Olimpico. Far from shining in the league, where they are only eighth in the standings, six points behind the top four, Lazio could still struggle to shine in the national cup. They face a team that has not necessarily been kind to them in recent seasons.
AC Milan arrives in a completely different state of form. Having beaten Lazio Rome 1-0 last Saturday, the Rossoneri are sitting at the top of Serie A. Since the start of the season, they have been successful against the big teams in the Italian league. Without competing in any European competitions, Massimiliano Allegri's men are also expected to shine in the Coppa Italia. They will do everything they can to make a big impact on Thursday evening and qualify for the quarterfinals.

Lazio - AC Milan: Form Analysis
The first half of the season has not been easy for Lazio Rome. Having failed to qualify for any European competition this season, the Lazio club is not playing a leading role in Serie A. It has already fallen far behind in the race for Europe.
Maurizio Sarri's team is only in 8th place in the standings after the first 13 games and is five points behind Juventus (7th). It has also lost two of its last three games, against Inter Milan (2-0) and AC Milan (1-0), which is none other than its next opponent in the Coppa Italia.
AC Milan has just beaten Lazio Rome in Serie A (1-0).
Like Lazio, AC Milan did not qualify for Europe this season. However, the Lombardy club is taking advantage of this to fight for the title. It currently tops Serie A, with just one defeat in 13 games. Its only loss came in its opening league game against Cremonese (1-2).
Before beating Lazio Rome in a particularly tense finale (1-0), Massimiliano Allegri's men had already made a big splash the previous weekend by winning the derby against Inter Milan (0-1). The finalists in last season's Coppa Italia also made a confident start to the national cup, with victories over Bari (2-0) and Lecce (3-0).

Lazio & AC Milan Squad Analysis
Lazio Rome will not have a full squad for this Coppa Italia round of 16 match. Samuel Gigot, Danilo Cataldi, Nicolò Rovella, and Matteo Cancellieri are all unavailable. Although Maurizio Sarri could rotate his squad, he is likely to field some key players. Alessio Romagnoli is expected to start in central defense when he faces his former club.
Toma Basic, who has been indispensable in Lazio's midfield for several weeks, could continue in the starting lineup. The same should be true for Mattia Zaccagni on the offensive front. Returning from injury last weekend, Taty Castellanos could regain his starting spot on Thursday evening.
Christian Pulisic is expected to return to the AC Milan squad on Thursday evening.
As for AC Milan, Zachary Athekame and Santiago Gimenez will not be back for the Coppa Italia. Christian Pulisic could return to the squad, but is unlikely to start. It would not be surprising to see Massimiliano Allegri go all out in this competition. Mike Maignan could therefore retain his place in goal for the Lombards.
Impressive again last weekend, the French international goalkeeper has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Another French player has been shining since the start of the season: Adrien Rabiot. He will be looking to continue his good form in midfield. Scorer of the only goal against Lazio Rome in Serie A, Rafael Leao will be hoping to make his mark again.

Our Lazio vs AC Milan Prediction
After beating Lazio Rome in Serie A last Saturday (1-0), AC Milan are looking to do the same in the Coppa Italia this time around. The Rossoneri are the favorites in this match, even though they are playing away from home. After all, we are talking about the Italian league leaders, who haven't lost in weeks. With no European competition to contend with, Massimiliano Allegri could go all out on Thursday evening by fielding several of his key players. This should be enough to see his team through to the quarter-finals.
