Last season, Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade also had to play in the Champions League qualifying round; in that tie, they defeated eventual Europa League semi-finalist Bodo/Glimt and qualified. Once again, the eight-time Serbian Super League champions had to make it through this stage, with the difference that the 2025/2026 Champions League would involve two stages. They cruised through the first with ease, winning 6-1 on aggregate against the Gibraltar champions. Veteran midfielder Katai scored and assisted twice in the second leg. Bruno Duarte also scored; he is on a four-match scoring streak, and had a brilliant performance in the Serbian Super League in the 7-1 thrashing of OFK Beograd.
But Red Star Belgrade will face Lech Poznan, a team from Poland, the reigning Polish Ekstraklasa champions, in the qualifying round starting on Wednesday. They already suffered a bitter taste this season by losing the Polish Super Cup to Legia.
They also showed no mercy in the first leg of the qualifying round against Breidablik of Iceland, which the Polish team thrashed 7-1 with a hat trick from Ishak. With that result, they didn't have to worry too much about the return leg, which, however, they also won 0-1 with another goal from Ishak.
