King Green (34-17-1) and Jeremy Stephens (29-22-0) will meet in the opening bout of UFC 328’s main card. The battle of the lightweights will feature two of the elder statesmen in the division. Neither is currently ranked in the top 15, but both have been beyond battle-tested in their careers.
King Green has won 3 of his last 5 fights over the last 3 years. After losing back-to-back fights to Paddy Pimblett and Mauricio Ruffy, he bounced back to defeat Lance Gibson Jr and Daniel Zellhuber. The losses came against two of the top 10 fighters in the division, so nothing to be ashamed of.
Jeremy Stephens has not looked good recently and has lost 4 of his last 5 fights. The opponents that he has faced are not of the highest quality. However, he did battle hard in each fight. Outside of the submission loss to Natan Schulte, the majority of his recent fights have come down to the judges. In fact, 14 of his career 22 losses have come via decision.
King Green is a heavy favorite in this fight and is likely to have the speed advantage in this matchup. Stephens will be wise to try to pressure Green in order to keep him from dictating the pace. But that is easier said than done.

While the price is a bit hefty for this fight, Green is very much worthy of the risk here. Stephens is basically a shell of his former self. His 12-1 start to his career ended way back in 2007, and while Green is no spring chicken, he at least continues to evolve and use his superior speed to his advantage. He should be able to pick apart Stephens in this one, and the threat of a KO is surely on the table.
