Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada will battle the upset-minded Justin Engel of Germany in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Boss Stuttgart Open on Friday.
Auger-Aliassime overcame his first major test of the grass-court season, beating the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. The Canadian neutralized Perricard’s 100 to 150 mph serves with terrific anticipation and counterpunching. He even broke Perricard’s serve three times while winning 89 percent of his first serves.
Engel booted out Alex Michelsen of the United States 6-4 6-4 to earn his second win of the tournament. Buoyed by the home crowd’s support, Engel held 100 percent of his serves and scored on all 31 first serves he connected in the match. The 281st-ranked Engel will be aiming for his fourth top-100 win against former world No.6 Auger-Aliassime.
