The group stage of the 2026 World Cup is coming to an end! On the third and final matchday of Group J, Jordan and Argentina will face off this Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This match has no stakes whatsoever for either team. In their first-ever World Cup appearance, Jordan failed to pull off the feat of qualifying for the knockout stage. They are already certain to finish last in the group following their two losses to Austria (3-1) and Algeria (1-2).
As for Argentina, they’ve already accomplished their goal. Led by Lionel Messi, who has scored five goals, the Albiceleste managed to win their first two matches against Algeria (3-0) and Austria (2-0). In addition to securing their spot in the Round of 16, Lionel Scaloni’s men are guaranteed to finish at the top of the group. Even with a few key players sitting this one out, the Argentine national team expects to come away from this final matchday with a big confidence boost heading into the rest of the tournament. We’re expecting plenty of goals in this showdown!

Jordan - Argentina: Form Analysis

Jordan was expected to struggle in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Just before the tournament began, the team had suffered two consecutive losses against Switzerland (4-1) and Colombia (2-0). They were unable to turn things around in the highly competitive Group J. In their opening match, they lost to Austria (3-1). The team coached by Jamal Sellami then fell to Algeria (1-2).
After opening the scoring in the 36th minute, they struggled much more in the second half. Nadhir Benbouali equalized (69th), before Amine Gouiri secured the victory for his team about ten minutes later. With this second loss in two matches, Jordan can no longer hope to climb out of last place in the group after the final matchday.
Argentina has secured first place in Group J.
It’s a different story for Argentina. As the defending world champion, the Albiceleste is hoping to retain its title in a few weeks. In fact, it didn’t break a sweat in its World Cup debut. In its opening match, the Argentine national team didn’t give Algeria a single chance (3-0). Lionel Scaloni’s men didn’t let up in their next match.
Having already scored a hat trick on Matchday 1, Lionel Messi helped his team secure a perfect record in Group J with a brace against Austria this time (2-0). Thanks to this latest victory, Argentina is guaranteed to finish at the top of the group. It would therefore come as no surprise to see some key players rested for this final group stage match. It’s a chance to recharge their batteries before getting down to business!

Jordan & Argentina Squad Analysis
Yazeed Abulaila will almost certainly be a key player for Jordan. After a tough opening match against Austria, the 33-year-old goalkeeper was much more solid against Algeria. Nizar Al Rashdan in midfield is also one to watch closely. He was the one who opened the scoring in his team’s last match.
On the offensive end, Mousa Al-Tamari remains Al-Nashama’s key player. The winger just made his mark in the previous match with one assist. He’d certainly be open to the idea of scoring his first goal of this World Cup...
Lionel Scaloni may rest several of Argentina’s key players.
As for Argentina, we can expect several changes now that they’ve secured first place in the group. After being injured against Austria, Cristian Romero could be replaced by Nicolas Otamendi in the center of the defense. We might also see Nicolas Tagliafico back at left back.
In midfield, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Lionel Scaloni start Leandro Paredes from the opening whistle. Finally, Lionel Messi will almost certainly be rested, having started his World Cup campaign with five goals in two games. Julian Alvarez, who came off the bench in the first two matches, could start against Jordan. He’ll be looking to score his first goal of this World Cup.
