Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain, who opened as a surprising moneyline underdog at +106, eyes another deep run at the 2025 Cincinnati Open as she faces Taylor Townsend of the United States in the third round on Monday.
Maneiro picked up her sixth win in seven matches on Saturday, as she knocked over Washington Open champion Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 in the second round. The win served as a fitting follow-up to the Spaniard’s surgical win over tennis legend Venus Williams 6-4 6-4 in the first round of this WTA 1000-level event. Maneiro, a quarterfinalist at the Canadian Open, is now 9-7 on the hard court this year.
Townsend advanced to the third round with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Liudmila Samsonova. Similar to Maneiro, Townsend has also won six of her last seven matches and is coming off a quarterfinal finish in her last tournament, at the WTA 500 Washington Open, three weeks ago. Townsend bumps up her 2025 hard-court record to 11-7.
