Aoi Ito of Japan will face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro on Thursday. She aims to extend her Cinderella run to the round of 16 of the 2025 Canadian Open.
Ito pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the tournament by ousting Jasmine Paolini of Italy 2-6 7-5 7-6(5) in the second round. The Japanese has now won three consecutive three-set matches in this WTA 1000 event, besting Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus 6-4 5-7 6-0 in the qualification stage, Katie Volynets of the United States 6-2 2-6 6-2, and Paolini. Ito ranks 110th in the WTA ranking but holds an impressive 23-12 record on hard court.
Maneiro also moved on to the third round after eliminating a couple of Americans. Maneiro outlasted Luisa Chirico 5-7 7-5 6-4 in the first round and blasted Ashlyn Krueger 6-4 6-4 in the second round. Ranked No.51 in the world, Maneiro boasts a 64 percent win rate on the hard court and 20-16 on the WTA Tour this year.

Playing fantastic tennis in the past two matches, Aoi Ito looks like an intriguing bet to cover +3.5 games against Bouzas Maneiro. The Japanese has racked up a strong 23-12 record on the hard court this year, though majority of those wins came either in the qualification stage of a big tournament or at the ITF/Challenger level.
Still, it’s hard to ignore her massive win over the No. 8-ranked Paolini in the previous round. Maneiro has won five of her last six matches, though none of the opponents she defeated in the stretch was as prominent as Paolini.
This is an intriguing matchup for sure, one that could go down to the wire. Maneiro is the favorite, being the higher-ranked player, but I can’t resist the lure of a bigger payout on Ito +3.5 games.
