Jasmine Paolini has beaten Coco Gauff in their last two meetings. Will the Italian continue her winning streak against the top American netter?
Paolini opened as +175 underdog to Coco Gauff in their highly anticipated quarterfinal clash at the 2025 Cincinnati Open on Friday. Even before the start of the tournament, many tennis pundits already predicted that the top cats would come out of their bracket and play each other in the quarterfinals of this WTA 1000 event.
Paolini punched her ticket to the last eight with a resounding victory over two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova 6-1 6-2. For the first time in Cincinnati, the Italian managed to hold all her serves, thanks to 24 first-serve points. Paolini also broke Krejcikova four times on just 12 return points. Paolini raised her 2025 hard-court record to 15-7 and 2025 WTA season record to 31-13.
Gauff roared into the quarterfinals with a quick win over Lucia Bronzetti 6-2 6-4. Gauff walked into her fourth-round match with fresh and rejuvenated energy after taking a two-day rest following Marta Kostyuk's withdrawal from their third-round match. Gauff collected 24 points off her first serves and broke Bronzetti five times to post the lopsided win.

In a match that has a high possibility of going the distance, I am picking Coco Gauff to gut out a close win over Jasmine Paolini. The Italian might have won the last two encounters but she has never beaten Gauff in a hard-court match.
Gauff defeated Paolini twice on the hard court. She scored the first win in the first round of the 2021 Adelaide International 6-4 6-7(4) 6-2 and the quarterfinals of the 2023 Cincinnati Open, 6-3 6-2.
Paolini will still be a tricky opponent, so Gauff must play her with extra caution because the Italian will not fold easily. But in the end, Gauff’s hard-court master will eventually set her apart against Paolini. I have it 6-3, 5-6, 7-6 in favor of Gauff.
