The Welterweight title will be on the line in the main event of UFC 330 Saturday night. The champion and arguably pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, Islam Makhachev, will take on Ian Machado Garry.
Islam is cementing himself as one of, if not the greatest, welterweights of all time. After taking the title from Oliveira, he has just defended against some of the top names in the world. He defeated Volkanovski twice before then submitting Dustin Poirier and Moicano in his next 2 fights. His last fight came in November of last year when he went the distance with Jack Della Maddalena. Now, he faces what is likely to be his hungriest contender in Machado Garry.
The hype has been rolling for quite a while with 28-year-old welterweight. Machado Garry has been his own best hype man and has continually told anyone that will listen that he is the next big thing. And to his credit, he had been rolling with 15 straight wins to begin his pro career. He then ran into a buzzsaw with Shavkat Rahkmanov back in December of 2024. He then went on to defeat Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad. Now, he is finally getting his opportunity to fight for the title but will have to go through one of the greats to achieve his ultimate goal.
