Iga Swiatek of Poland will tussle with Polina Kudermetova of Russia to begin another Grand Slam quest at the 2025 Wimbledon Open on Tuesday.
Swiatek walks into the Wimbledon Open still searching for her first title in over a year after losing to Jessica Pegula 4-6, 5-7 in the championship match of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open. The Pole had a solid run in her only grass-court tournament before Wimbledon Open, hacking out straight-set wins over Victoria Azarenka 6-4 6-4, Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4 7-6(5), and Jasmine Paolini 6-1 6-3 before she ran into a streaking Pegula in the final.
Kudermetova has lost her last six matches, including a defeat in the opening round of the Libema Open to her sister, Veronika Kudermetova, 3-6, 3-6. Kudermetova is a career 3-4 on grass and 14-14 overall on the WTA 2025 season.
