Former world’s No.1 Iga Swiatek shoots for a place in the fourth round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open against a familiar face in Danielle Rose Collins of the United States on Saturday.
Swiatek survived an upset scare on Thursday as she rallied from a set down to beat Catherine McNally of the United States 5-7 6-2 6-1. After storming past Polina Kudermetova 7-5 6-1 in the first round, the Pole faced heavy resistance from McNally in the opening set, which saw the 5-time Grand Slam winner concede two service breaks. However, the complexion of the match changed in the second set when a more focused Swiatek began to punish the American with winners after winners in the second and third sets. Swiatek finished the match with 43 first-serve points and 5 breakpoint conversions.
Collins breezed through to the third round with a 6-4 6-1 win over Veronika Erjavec. Collins seized control of the match right from the get-go as she held 100 percent of her serves and broke Erjavec’s serves three times. Collins is now 12-12 on grass.
