UNLV is coming off a solid season, going 11-3 overall last year and 6-1 in conference play. It was a good enough season for the Rebels to be in the final AP Poll at No. 23. Now, with former Florida and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen at the helm, there’s a lot of excitement for the Rebels entering this season. Mullen only has two starters coming back, but has about 50 new players on the roster, including 37 with Power Four experience and 16 former four-star and five-star recruits. As for Idaho State, the Bengals were a mediocre FCS team last season. They were just 3-5 in conference play and 5-7 overall. They will have Jordan Cooke back at QB after he redshirted last season. With him behind center, the Bengals had the No. 1 passing game in the FCS in 2023. He’ll have some experience to work with at receiver, but the Bengals' defense line will be lacking experience and could see some early growing pains.

It would be the first shock of the year if the Bengals were to upset the Rebels and a terrible start to the Dan Mullen Era—but don’t bet on that happening. Mullen is essentially building a team from the ground up after being really busy in the offseason. It will take some time for everyone to come together, but they shouldn’t get too much of a fight against an FCS team with a rebuilt defense that was just mediocre on its best day last season. However, I’m not entirely comfortable betting on a 26.5-point spread. I expect the Rebels to do the bulk of the scoring, but for the Bengals to do enough to go OVER the TOTAL.
