The EPL is back! One of the highlights of the opening weekend sees newly promoted Hull City take on Manchester United at the MKM Stadium. After sealing promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs last season, the Tigers play their first English top flight game since 2017. They couldn't have asked for a much tougher opening match, though, with a resurging Manchester United looking to reestablish themselves as a genuine top four side.

Hull seemingly came out of nowhere in order to claim the final playoff spot last season. The season prior, the Tigers only just survived a relegation scare and few would've expected them to challenge at the top end of the table, let alone achieve promotion. Such is the nature of the EFL Championship. As for United, they managed to turn their fortunes around after Michael Carrick took charge and achieved a top four spot and with it, a place in the Champions League. Whether United can achieve similar in the 26/27 season is yet to be seen, but they're likely to get their campaign off to a winning start. 

Both teams have enjoyed reasonably successful preseasons. Hull lost just one of their five preseason games, with United winning two and drawing two of their last six. Both are missing key players for the season opener, but for our prediction there's little to suggest the result will be anything but an away victory.

Opening games are always difficult to predict, especially those featuring a newly promoted side. However, we can't look past an away victory. We think Hull will score, they're playing at home in the Premier League for the first time in nine years and a roaring MKM Stadium crowd will certainly spur the Tigers on. It's unlikely to be enough to take any points from the game, though, as we predict Man United will outscore them.
