Houston Dynamo are set to face Pachuca at the Shell Energy Stadium on Tuesday in what will be the final group stage match of the 2025 Leagues Cup. Although the stakes are high for Pachuca, the match will serve more as a matter of pride for Houston, who have already been mathematically eliminated from the tournament after back-to-back defeats. For the visitors, however, three points are absolutely crucial as they look to clinch a spot in the knockout phase.

It’s been a forgettable Leagues Cup run for the Dynamo, who have struggled to gain any momentum. The Texas side were thoroughly outclassed in their opening match, suffering a 4-1 loss to Tigres. Their second outing against Mazatlán offered glimmers of improvement, but poor finishing doomed them in a 2-0 defeat. While they created several promising chances, a lack of composure in front of goal and defensive lapses have cost them dearly.

Houston’s domestic form hasn’t been any more reassuring. Currently rooted at the bottom of the MLS standings and winless in their last five games in all competitions, they appear to be in a tailspin. Their record at Shell Energy Stadium offers little comfort, with just one win in their last seven matches at home. Despite playing in familiar surroundings and carrying the motivation to end the tournament on a high note, the odds are firmly stacked against them.

Pachuca, on the other hand, have had a more competitive campaign. The Tuzos opened their group stage with a hard-fought 3-2 win over San Diego, displaying attacking prowess and mental resilience. Their second match against Los Angeles FC was far more tactical, ending in a 1-1 draw. Although they fell short in the penalty shootout, they still managed to secure a valuable point, bringing their group total to four points.
