The undefeated Houston Cougars (3-0) will travel to the Pacific Northwest to face the winless Oregon State Beavers (0-4) on Friday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 p.m. EST at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, OR.
Houston has been rolling through the season with relative ease, taking down some easy competition. They opened the season with a 27-0 win over Stephen F. Austin, followed it with a 35-9 victory over Rice, and took down Colorado 36-20. The stats are ridiculous, but that is going to happen when a team plays a soft schedule. Oregon State, while winless, has played a much tougher schedule. No FCS teams like Houston. They were crushed by Cal (34-15) but looked better against Fresno State (36-27). But then they faced two ranked teams, No. 21 Texas Tech and No. 6 Oregon. Neither game went well for the Beavers (45-14, Texas Tech, and 41-7 vs. Oregon). So, how is it that a winless team is only a 13.5-point dog to an undefeated team that has been blowing teams out of the water? Probably because the Beavers do have some talent, and the Cougars have played a relatively easy schedule compared to the teams Oregon State has faced.

Oregon State’s defense has allowed over 450 yards per game. To be fair, they’ve played some high-powered offenses. But Houston’s offense belongs in the same conversation. The Beavers offense, on the other hand, struggles to get out of its own way. It is capable of a big play or two with the talented and athletic Maalik Murphy at quarterback. But the offense has also turned the ball over seven times this season. The Beavers may very well be better than they appear to be, but Houston is good enough to cover this spread with relative ease.
