The Mariners didn't play bad baseball, but they definitely didn't have a good time in the San Francisco Bay Area in a series against the Giants, where they were swept. The Mariners have important pieces, but the lack of AVG on offense, which has been a problem since 2024, and the inability to coordinate good pitching and hitting often result in them losing games. At least the Mariners will be happy to return to T-Mobile Park and have earned their first win of the season on Monday against the Astros. Also, hours before Game 1, the Astros received bad news when a line drive hit pitcher Arrigheti and broke his thumb.
The Astros, like in previous seasons, also started the 2025 season off to a slow start, especially in batting, where they're averaging just .203 AVG. The clash of low-AVG offenses resulted in Game 1 in a 7-hit contest between the two teams that ended 4-3 in favor of the Mariners, with Andrés Muñoz recording his 4th save.
