The Gonzaga Bulldogs will face the No. 19 Saint Mary’s Gaels in the championship game of the West Coast Conference Tournament at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Fans can see this game between two WCC giants get underway tonight at 9 p.m. ET with coverage via ESPN/ESPN+.
More often than not, the title game for the WCC Tournament has been a third meeting between Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s, with the Bulldogs finishing with the win. Since 2000, Gonzaga has won every WCC Tournament but five, including last season (which Saint Mary’s won). Four of those five were won by Saint Mary’s. So, it is not hard to understand why Gonzaga is the betting favorite to win. But the Gaels beat the Bulldogs twice this season, 62-58 (Feb. 1) on their home court and again on Gonzaga’s court, 74-67, in Spokane. Saint Mary’s went into the break in the lead in both games, one by eight points and the other ten. Gonzaga made a game of it in the second half of both but was unable to gain control in either game.
But there is something to be said for having a championship pedigree. If there is anything Gonzaga has proven over the years, it’s that they know how to win a championship game.

I get why the Bulldogs are favored—they always win the WCC tournament. But they just don’t look like the dominant team fans are accustomed to seeing. However, they are a force to be reckoned with on the scoreboard (No. 2 in the country in scoring). But Saint Mary’s has a top 5 defense that has already proven it can keep the Bulldogs offense in check.
