The Golden State Valkyries will take on the Storm at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
As an expansion team, expectations were low for the Golden State coming into the season. However, they have been surprisingly competitive throughout the season and would make the playoffs as the No. 8 seed if the postseason were to start today. However, like many teams, they are often at their best at home (where they are 7-4), but have had some issues on the road (where they are 3-7). Seattle had an early three-game losing streak, but the Storm have otherwise played like one of the better teams in the WNBA. At 13-9, they would be the No. 4 seed if the playoffs were to start today. They’ve gone 7-4 when playing at home but have a 6-5 record on the road.
This will be the third game between the two. Golden State won the first on June 14, 76-70. Kayla Thornton led the way with a double-double, 22 points and 12 rebounds. When they met again a couple of weeks later, the Valkyries won again but in a much more dominant fashion, 84-57. Tiffany Hayes led the charge with 21 points, followed by Veronica Burton with 15.

Golden State has been playing much better than expected this season, but not on the road, where their defense is ranked No. 8 in the league. However, Seattle’s defense is ranked NO. 8 at home, so there may be no advantage there. But where there is an advantage is in how well each team shoots the ball. Seattle is third in the league at 45.2% (No. 1 at home, 47.8%) while Golden State ranks second-to-last at 40.6%. I’ve got to go with Seattle to win this one at home because Golden State tends to struggle on the road. But I’m not comfortable with saying they can cover the spread (-5.5), and the TOTAL could easily go either way.
