New York Liberty (3-1) and Golden State Valkyries (2-1) will clash on Thursday night at the Barclays Center. The Liberty will be shooting to win and surge ahead in the Eastern Conference after enjoying a solid start. They managed to bounce back from their painful 2-point defeat against Portland Fire on the road to win the repeat matchup 82-100 last Thursday. The Liberty will now be keen to maximize their seven-game home stand, starting with tonight’s fixture.
The Valkyries, on the other side of the hardwood, are second in the Western Conference, just a game behind the Aces. They opened the season with back-to-back wins against the Storm and the Mercury before losing 63-69 to Chicago Sky. It was a tight defensive battle that saw the Valkyries race to a 12-point lead before letting the game slip away. Even worse, they shot just 29% overall. They must do better to stand a chance against the Liberty.

New York Liberty are the heavy -350 betting favorites. They’ll welcome back their two All-Stars, power forward Satou Sabally and point guard Sabrina Ionescu. The latter missed New York’s last four assignments with a leg injury before returning to training on Monday. Sabally, who joined from Phoenix during the offseason, also returned to training this week. Meanwhile, the Valkyries have lesser star power, although they play tight defense and shoot lots of 3-pointers. However, we expect New York’s offense, led by Breanna Stewart, to find a way around the Valkyries’ stubborn defense and get their second home win of the season. It should be a comfortable victory for the hosts.
