On the first day of the Europa League group stage, Go Ahead Eagles will take on FCSB this Thursday at De Adelaarshorst in the Netherlands. The home team is coming off a very successful season on the domestic scene. In addition to finishing seventh in the Eredivisie, they won the KNVB Beker by defeating AZ Alkmaar in the final on penalties. This impressive feat earned them direct qualification for the group stage of this season's Europa League. The Dutch club has been slow to get going this season, failing to win any of its first four Eredivisie games. However, it has just won its last two league games against FC Volendam (3-0) and Zwolle (0-3).
FCSB, meanwhile, has had a very difficult start to the season. Admittedly, it won the Romanian Super Cup by defeating CFR Cluj (2-1). However, it was quickly eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers in the Superliga. To make matters worse, the Romanian club has won only once in 10 league games and is currently in 13th place in the standings. Elias Charalambous's men are coming off a 3-1 defeat at Botosani. This is not the best way to approach their entry into this phase of the Europa league. They could well suffer another defeat in the Netherlands.
