At the Letzigrund Stadion in Zurich, the second semifinal of the Women's Euro 2025 tournament between Spain and Germany will be played on Wednesday. Since the betting odds were published, punters have flocked to Spain to continue their overwhelming run, as the odds for a Spanish victory fell to -196 as of Monday afternoon.
However, despite Spain being the current world champion, this will only be Spain's second European Championship semifinal in a tournament that has eluded them. In fact, since the first Women's Euro tournament took place in 1984, Spain has never won a Women's Euro; their best appearance remains in 1977, when they reached the semi-finals. Even more curiously, Spain's quarter-final victory over Switzerland was the first time Spain had won a European Championship knockout tie.
Quite the opposite could be said about the German women's European football team, which from 1995 to 2013 won this tournament six times in a row, an achievement that will hardly be matched by any team in the future.
Germany finished second in its group after losing to Sweden and eliminated France in the quarterfinals in Basel.

Germany W - Spain W: Form Analysis
Betting sites may underestimate the pace of the German national team, which, looking back not too far, we can see is almost as good as that of the Spanish. First, in the women's Nations League, after drawing the Netherlands in the first match, they won the next five, securing the group, thrashing Austria 6-0 and scoring 26 goals in six matches; no other country scored more.
At the Women's Euro Cup in Switzerland, they defeated Poland 2-0, Denmark 2-1, lost to Sweden, and played an epic match against France, where they were down to 10 players from the 13th minute due to Hendrich's expulsion. Against France, everything came down to a penalty shootout, where the Germans scored 6 and the French 5.
Spain also forged a successful run in the Nations League from February to June, with 5 wins and just one loss. In the Women's Euro Cup, no team scored more than Spain's 16 goals in four matches.

Germany W & Spain W Squad Analysis
Germany will not be fielding a full-strength squad for this Women's Euro semi-final. At the start of the competition, Giulia Gwinn was injured and ruled out for the remainder of the match. Sarai Linder went off injured against France and will not return for the clash with Spain. To make matters worse, Kathrin Hendrich is suspended following her red card against Les Bleues, as is Sjoeke Nusken for an accumulation of yellow cards. On the bright side, Christian Wuck will be able to welcome back Carlotta Wamser from suspension. He can also count on the fine form of his goalkeeper: Ann-Katrin Berger. The latter put in a great performance in the previous round. Finally, Jule Brand will be looking to make the difference, having scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in this tournament.
Germany have to make do with a number of absentees for this semi-final.
As for Spain, Laia Aleixandri will not be present for this match. She is suspended after receiving her second yellow card of the tournament, in the previous round against Switzerland. La Roja will have loads of other quality players for this matchup. Aitana Bonmati is back to 100% after her bout with viral meningitis at the start of the tournament: she scored an assist in the quarter-finals. Alexia Putellas is also in fine form, with 3 goals and 4 assists. But these are not Montserrat Tomé's only attacking assets. Claudia Pina, Athenea del Castillo and Esther Gonzalez can make the difference at any time. The latter is also the top scorer at this Women's Euro, with 4 goals.
