The Champions League round of 16 is underway! The first match to kick off pits Galatasaray against Liverpool on Tuesday at Rams Park. It wasn't easy for the Turkish club to reach the knockout stages. They finished 20th in the league phase. Then, Okan Buruk's team pulled off a major upset in the play-offs by knocking out Juventus, even if they had a scare in the second leg (aggregate score: 7-5 a.e.t.). It won't be the same story this time around.
Liverpool did not need to go through the play-offs to qualify for the Champions League round of 16. The Reds had little trouble climbing to third place in the group stage, with six wins in eight games. Arne Slot's men did, however, lose 1-0 away to Galatasaray on September 30. They will have a chance to get their revenge at the start of this week and put themselves in the best possible position ahead of the second leg at Anfield.

Galatasaray - Liverpool: Form Analysis
On the domestic front, Galatasaray has been very convincing. It won its last two Süper Lig matches and remains firmly at the top of the table. To top it all off, it is well on its way to qualifying for the final phase of the Turkish Cup. The team coached by Okan Buruk is also doing well in this season's Champions League.
Despite a difficult end to the league season, it managed to finish in 20th place in the standings and qualify for the play-offs. It made a strong impression in the first leg of the play-off, crushing Juventus 5-2. However, the Turkish club almost suffered a reversal in the second leg, despite having a numerical advantage for much of the game. Nevertheless, it managed to secure the win in extra time to reach the round of 16 (2-3 a.e.t.).
Liverpool lost to Galatasaray on their home turf in the Champions League group stage (1-0) and will be looking to take revenge on Tuesday.
Liverpool has big ambitions for the coming weeks. It is currently sixth in the Premier League, just three points behind the top four. It has also qualified for the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and remains in contention in the Champions League round of 16.
The Reds have been very solid during the league phase, winning six of their eight games. They managed to finish third in the standings and thus avoid the play-offs. They also have a score to settle with Galatasaray. Arne Slot's men lost 1-0 away to the Turkish club during the league phase. They are expecting a very different scenario on Tuesday as they look to take a big step towards qualifying for the Champions League quarterfinals.

In addition, Yunus Akgün remains uncertain. There are several experienced players in Okan Buruk's squad. Davinson Sánchez remains solid in central defense, as does Lucas Torreira in midfield.

As for Liverpool, there are numerous absentees. Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, Stefan Bajčetić, Wataru Endo, and Alexander Isak are unavailable. Arne Slot expects to see a very solid defense for this trip to Turkey. Alisson Becker will have to be at his best in goal, as will Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk in central defense.
In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai remain as important as ever. Mohamed Salah has recently regained his confidence, scoring in the Reds' last two games in all competitions.
