Jordan Thompson hasn't been seen since departing the Indian Wells event at the first time of asking last week, but I'm not sure we should discount him on that basis alone. Moreover, should the Australian be considered a relative outsider ahead of this match? For my money, definitely not. After all, we're talking about a player who has recently got the better of both Ruud and Zverev on hard courts, beating the former in straight sets. Interestingly, when Monfils played Ruud just last week, he came up short. Such form should not be ignored. Factor in that Thompson beat Monfils on an American hard court last season, and did so in rather simple fashion, I really don't think he deserves the disrespect that he's currently getting in the betting. On that basis, I make the Aussie a value bet to upset the odds and win this match.
