Frances Tiafoe of the United States targets a place in the round of 16 as he tangles with Aleksandar Vukic of Australia in the third round of the 2025 Canadian Open.
Tiafoe progressed into the third round with a hard-earned win over Japanese Yuta Watanuki 1-6, 7-5, 7-6. The 2024 US Open semifinalist refused to go down without giving a fight after scoring only one game in the first set. Tiafoe made the comeback possible by landing 10 aces and winning 75 percent of his first serves.
Vukic pulled off a stunner against Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-6(2), 6-3 in the second round. Vukic, who also eliminated Pablo Martinez 7-5, 6-3 in the first round, managed to hold all his serves by winning 81 percent of his first serves and scoring 13 aces. He also broke Norrie twice, enough to seize a decisive edge over the Brit.

I am going with Frances Tiafoe, who traditionally plays his best tennis during the North American hard-court season. Tiafoe battled in the second round against Watanuki, but I think he deserves a pass for that performance since it was his opening match.
