New York went into the break with wins in its last two games, 5-4 OT vs. Pittsburgh and 301 vs. New Jersey. They returned Thursday night in Montreal with a game against the Canadiens, which they won in overtime, 4-3. With the win, they are in third place in the Metropolitan Division with a 33-21-5 record and 71 points. As for Florida, the Panthers lost five of their last six game before the break. They returned Thursday night with a home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which they won 5-1. But then they played the Buffalo Sabres the next night at home and lost 3-2.
This game is the second of three scheduled between the Panthers and Sabres this season. The first was on December 27, 2025, in Sunrise, Florida, at the Amerant Bank Arena, which the Panthers won, 4-1. This preview was posted prior to New York’s game on Saturday vs. Columbus.
