For the 1st time since their season openers, the Chicago Blackhawks (21-22-8) and the Florida Panthers (26-20-3) will meet. The Panthers were on their home ice in the opener and took a 3-2 victory. Jesper Boqvist scored the game-deciding goal about midway through the 3rd period. Sergei Bobrovsky was able to withstand the late pressure from the Blackhawks and help his team secure the win with 17 total saves in the game.
The Panthers have won 4 of their last 6 games. Their most recent game was a 2-1 shootout win on the road in Winnipeg on Thursday. The win kicked off a short 3-game road trip, with this meeting in Chicago being the middle game. In the win over Winnipeg, Daniil Tarasov stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced. More credit should be given to the defensive play, allowing that small number of shots. They will look to play tough once again here in Chicago.
Chicago has lost 4 of their last 6 and had their opportunity at a 3-game winning streak thwarted by Tampa Bay on Friday. It was a defensive-minded game that was ultimately decided by shootouts, and the Blackhawks were on the short end of the stick.
