The NHL is back for an opening game that pits the last two champions from the previous three seasons against each other: the Hurricanes and the Panthers. Rod Brind’Amour and his team are defending their title against the Panthers, who are seeking redemption after missing the playoffs a few months ago.
This is all the more significant given the Panthers’ crushing 9-1 loss at the Lenovo Center to the same Hurricanes earlier this year...which marked the Panthers’ biggest defeat of last season and the Hurricanes’ biggest victory of the previous season.
The Hurricanes have given the impression of playing in a higher league than the Panthers in recent months. And it would be surprising to see them falter at home in the first game, following their dominant playoff title run and facing a Florida team looking to kick off a new era.
