The Florida Gators will try to keep the good times rolling this week after beating the Texas Longhorns with a win over Texas A&M at Kyle Field in College Station, TX. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Florida had not gotten the season off to a good start. Heading into last weekend’s game against Texas, the Gators had lost three in a row (South Florida, LSU, and Miami) to open the season at 1-3. The Longhorns had opened as 6.5-point favorites and closed at 4.5. But despite being home underdogs, the Gators controlled the game from the start, taking a 29-14 lead into the fourth before winning 29-21. The key? Shutting down the Texas run game, holding the Longhorns to 52 yards on the ground, led by Arch Manning with 37. Controlling the run game will be key to an upset win over the Aggies team, which averages just under 200 yards a game on the ground. As for the Aggies, Texas A&M is off to a 5-0 start with wins over Notre Dame, Auburn, and Mississippi State. The run game has been explosive, the defense has been dominant but prone to giving up big plays on occasion, and the passing game has been solid.

After last week’s win over Texas, it is hard to know what to expect out of Florida. The Gators had been disappointing through the first four weeks, but to be fair, two of the losses were to teams ranked inside the top five at the time. So, maybe the version of DJ Langway we saw vs. Texas will show up against the Aggies? Whether he does or not, A&M is the better team and should absolutely win this game. However, they don’t seem to keep their foot on the gas, often letting teams back in or failing to put them away. So, for once, I agree with the public. Texas A&M will win, but not cover.
