Espanyol Barcelona occupies sixth place, the last European spot, but their recent results in La Liga have been rather disappointing, with only two wins against the two promoted teams, Oviedo (0-2) and Elche (1-0), in their last seven league games. After a tough qualification in the Copa del Rey away to Atletic Lleida (1-2), the Catalan club lost in the Basque Country to Deportivo Alavés (2-1) last weekend. Held to draws by Valencia CF (2-2) and Betis Sevilla (1-2) in two of their last three home games, Espanyol will have a tough match against a Villarreal side keen to show a different side to the one they showed in Paphos (1-0) on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Before this surprise defeat in Cyprus in midweek, the Yellow Submarine had racked up three big wins in Valencia (0-2), away to Ciudad de Lucena (0-6) and against Rayo Vallecano (4-0) last weekend. Striker Gerard Moreno, who has scored in the last two La Liga games, is Villarreal's man in form, as is midfielder Santi Comesana, who has scored three goals in his last four appearances. With two wins in their last three La Liga away games in Seville (1-2) and Valencia (0-2), Villarreal are traveling well and will be keen to record their eighth league win on matchday 12.
