The UFC 322 card is completely loaded and evidence of that is this bout being in the Prelims. Erin Blanchfield (13-2) will take on Tracy Cortez (12-2) in a great women’s flyweight matchup. Blanchfield had been on a tear, winning 9 straight fights dating back to June of 2019 before getting knocked down a peg by Manon Fiorot last March. The unanimous decision loss slowed her ascending rise to what she had hoped would be a title shot. However, she did not let that loss hold her down too long. She came back in November and scored a unanimous victory over former champ, Rose Namajunas. The win gave her another experience of going a full 5 rounds, something she had not done previously in her career. Her opponent, Tracy Cortez, was on a similar path and had a similar recent bump in the road. After winning 11 straight, she dropped one to Rose in July of last year. The unanimous decision loss was her first time going the full 5 rounds. She did bounce back and score a decision victory over Viviane Araujo this June and will look to build from that victory. We hate to use a common opponent as a barometer for fighters but we feel like the fact that Rose is such a great all-around fighter and both women have faced her in their last 2 fights, it is noteworthy. Blanchfield showed that she has the stamina to go 5 full rounds and while this bout is only 3, we believe that she will have the cardio advantage. We also like her to have the advantage on the feet. She peppered Rose throughout their fight and Rose was the more active fighter against Cortez in their meeting. I believe that if Cortez does not come out in the 1st round and out strike Blanchfield, it should be a relatively easy fight for Blanchfield.
