Although bettors continue to favor the Spanish women's team to win this European Championship, given their overwhelming performance in the tournament and the fact that Spain is the reigning world champion, the England women's team, known as "the Lionesses," is the second favorite to repeat their title as European champions. To do so, they will have to justify their favoritism in the -208 odds bet to win the semifinal against Italy, who with a last-minute goal from Girelli in the 90th minute sealed their place in the semi-finals, beating Norway in the process.
England, for now, amid a tournament of ups and downs that began with a loss to France, appears to be enjoying "the luck of the champion". In Zurich, in their quarterfinal match against Sweden, they trailed 2-0, and it wasn't until a pair of goals just two minutes apart from each other by Bronze and Agyemang that the Lionesses secured the equalizer that forced extra time. The Swedes converted only 2 of 6 penalties, and England converted 3 of 6; the last one was also scored by Lucy Bronze.
Meanwhile, Italy edged their tough group of Belgium, Portugal, and Spain with just 4 points. By reaching the semifinals, this already marks Italy's best performance since the 1997 edition of the European Championship.

The England women's team has never lost two consecutive matches since 2023. In the official competitions leading up to the Women's European Championship, however, the Lionesses were once again overshadowed by Spain in the Nations League; once again, they had to settle for a second-place finish for the second consecutive time in that tournament. But there's something about the European Championship for the English team that makes them look good. Not only did they win the 2022 edition held in England, beating the Germans 2-1 at Wembley, but they were also semi-finalists in the 2017 edition.
In 2017, when England reached the semi-finals, it was Wiegman who led the Netherlands to glory, and then took over as England coach to make them champions as well. If Wiegman leads England to another final, she will be the second manager to reach three consecutive Women's Euro finals.
Even so, history shows that England have only advanced to the final from the semi-finals 50% of the time; plus, a 5-1 thrashing of Italy in a 2024 friendly should give them hope.

By name, the England team appears to have more depth, and its players have shared the spotlight throughout the tournament. For example, perhaps the best performance at this Women's Euro was Ella Ann Toone against Wales; the Manchester United player scored and assisted twice in the rout. Arsenal center-forward Alessia Russo always seems to have a goal in her pocket; In fact, she's made a goal contribution in five of her last six matches for the Lionesses. However, teenager Michelle Agyemang has been more talked about, having been decisive off the bench, and without her goal against Sweden, England would likely have been eliminated by now.
Italy also has no players missing for Tuesday's semifinal; for now, the spotlight is on Sofia Cantore, who provided both assists for both goals in Italy's 2-1 victory over Norway.
