After getting the job done in high-scoring fashion in their first Group L match, the English look to continue marching towards the knockouts on Tuesday, when they’ll take on Ghana in Boston.
For some time under Thomas Tuchel, the Three Lions had been a little laboured, often winning in low-scoring fashion, but they exploded into life in Dallas, scoring four goals. Can they follow that effort with another strong offensive performance? There was nothing explosive about Ghana’s 1-0 win over Panama, but the Africans found a way to get over the line, and at big tournaments, that’s what matters.
This is absolutely a game that the English should emerge victorious from, but if they adopt a cavalier approach for the second game on the spin, then their victory may not come complete with a clean sheet, prompting a bet on ‘England to Win & Both Teams to Score’.

England - Ghana: Form Analysis

There was plenty to like about the way in which the Three Lions got on the front foot against the Croats. Sure, they were aided by their opponents being particularly open at the back, but we can’t take anything away from the way in which they stepped on the gas throughout the contest, creating lots of chances, and for once, they were less than wasteful in the final third.
In games of this nature, they could easily be a threat on the break, but after looking open at times against modest opposition, they could really struggle at the back.
The Ghanaians weren’t hugely creative against Panama, offering virtually no offensive threat in the first half, but they woke up in the second half after their new boss made some changes, changes that definitely had a positive impact. In games of this nature, they could easily be a threat on the break, but after looking open at times against modest opposition, they could really struggle at the back.

England & Ghana Squad Analysis
Given that things went well for Thomas Tuchel and his troops in that first Group L battle, there shouldn’t be too much tinkering done by the head coach, who is expected to start the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Anthoyn Gordon for the second game in a row. Declan Rice went off with a slight knock against Croatia and could be rested. If that’s the case, Kobbie Mainoo would likely deputise.
After a promising performance last time out, youngster Caleb Yirenki should again feature prominently.
Ghana’s game against Panama was just a second game in charge for veteran of the game Carlos Queiroz, who is likely still figuring out his best XI. After a promising performance last time out, youngster Caleb Yirenki should again feature prominently. Kamaldeen Suleman struggled to make an impact and could be dropped to the bench. Inaki Williams, Brandon Thomas Asante and Issahaku Fatawu are all potential replacements.

Our England vs Ghana Prediction
It would be incredibly foolish for the English to revert back to adopting a pragmatic style here. By being hugely positive and playing intense soccer, they overpowered the Croats, and they can do the same here. After all, who cared if you concede and endure some pain at the back when you've got so much going for you offensively?
Thomas Tuchel seemed very bouyed by the way his team played in that first game and is thus likely to set up in a similar fashion. On this basis, given that the Ghanaians are weak at the back but good on the break, betting on England to win without recording a clean sheet is the way to go at odds of +225.
