Still searching for her winning form, Emma Navarro of the United States will face Ella Seidel of Germany in the second round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open.
Navarro has been on a tailspin since the start of the North American hard-court season, going 1-2 in her last three matches. The former top-10 player lost to Maria Sakkari of Greece 5-7, 6(1)-7 in the second round of the 2025 Washington Open and Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine 5-7, 6-4 in the third round of the 2025 Canadian Open. Her only win in this stretch came at the expense of Rebecca Marino 6-1 6-2 in the first round in Montreal.
After a quarterfinal run at the 2025 Polish Open, Seidel sustained her momentum into the WTA-1000 level event in Cincinnati, where he racked up three wins in a row to reach the second round. Seidel downed Varvara Lepechenko 6-2 6-1 and Priscilla Hon 5-7 6-3 6-4 in the qualifiers before rallying past Polina Kudermetova of Russia 1-6 6-3 6-2 in the first round.
