On Friday, it's time for the third round to begin at the All England Club, and on the WTA side of things, there are a few interesting clashes, especially the one between Elise Mertens and Elina Svitolina. The pair find themselves facing each other for the second time in a fortnight after recently playing in the first round of a grass-court event in Germany. Svitolina got the job done there, winning in straight sets, but don't be surprised if Mertens pushes the Ukrainian much harder under these conditions.  After all, that recent match came straight after her tournament win in s-Hertogenbosch, so we can probably conclude that her celebrations there got in the way a little. 

Since rocking up at Wimbledon, the Belgian has looked in useful form, seeing off a decent player last time out to reach the third round, which is something that she's now done five times. Her best ever peformances at the home of grass-court tennis came in 2019 and 2022, with her reaching the fourth round in both of those years. For Svitolina, Wimbledon has typically gone well, with the Ukrainian reaching the semi finals in both 2019 and 2023, while she reached the quarters last season. She clearly knows how to get down to business at this prestigious event.
