Victoria Mboko of Canada looks to move on to the round of 16 of the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open, as she takes on former Grand Slam winner Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the second round on Wednesday in Washington D.C.
Mboko continued to turn heads with her exceptional play at a young age after reaching the third round of the 2025 French Open and the second round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open. The 18-year-old Canadian entered the North American hard-court season already holding an impressive 11-1 record in hard-court matches in 2025 while parading a career 72.4 percent win rate on the surface. Mboko punched her ticket to the next round with a resounding 6-2, 6-4 win over Anastasia Potapova of Russia in the first round.
Rybakina will also kick off her North American hard-court campaign on Wednesday following a disappointing grass-court season. After a couple of quarterfinal finishes at the Queens and Berlin, the 2022 Wimbledon Open champion could only reach the third round of this year’s tournament at All-England Club after falling to Clara Tauson of Denmark 7-6(6) 6-3. With the WTA Tour returning to the hard court, Rybakina will continue to pose danger for basically anyone on the tour because of her ability to get hot out of nowhere. The Kazakh owns a 15-7 record on hard courts in 2025 and a respectable 168-78 record on the surface throughout her career.
