Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan will lock horns with an upset-minded Magdalena Frech of Poland in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open.
Rybakina advanced to the final eight stage with a straight-set victory over Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko 6-3 7-5. The former Wimbledon Open champion dictated the tempo by collecting 23 points off the first serves and converting four of nine breakpoint chances. Rybakina upped her hard-court record this year to 16-17 and her 2025 WTA season overall record to 32-13.
Frech made it to the quarterfinals with an emphatic 6-2, 6-2 over the returning Venus Williams of the United States. Despite playing before a predominantly American crowd at William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center, Frech managed to stay composed and kept the former world’s No.1 at bay throughout their match. The Pole won 87 percent of her first serves while converting on all five breakpoint chances.
