Eastern Conference top dogs, the Carolina Hurricanes, will meet back-to-back Stanley Cup finalists, the Edmonton Oilers, in a fascinating matchup on Saturday at the Lenovo Center.
Carolina has gone 11-5-0 so far, earning 22 points despite an injury-depleted defense. With about a fifth of the regular season completed, only the New Jersey Devils have more points in the Eastern Conference, with 25.
On Saturday night, the Hurricanes will be eager to bounce back from their fifth defeat of the season. Rod Brind'Amour's side struggled on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals, going down 4-1.
To add more salt to the wounds, the Brind'Amour lost another player from the lineup on Tuesday, as goaltender Frederik Andersen was pulled by a concussion spotter. He has joined defensemen Jalen Chatfield, Jaccob Slavin, and Charles-Alexis Legault on the shelf.
Edmonton suffered its own injury blow recently, as veteran forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was ruled out for at least one week. However, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has also received good news from the injury front, as winger Zach Hyman is ready to make his season debut on Saturday.
With Hyman out, the Oilers have had a mediocre offensive record, and it has left the team in a tough spot. Their inability to score has prevented Edmonton from making up for its weak defense, resulting in a disappointing 8-7-4 record.

Our Carolina Hurricanes vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction
Hyman's return will provide a boost for the Oilers. But they have been horrible on the road this season, and it seems unlikely they can improve their record against a Carolina team that rarely loses on home ice.
Despite their injury issues, the Hurricanes have lost back-to-back games only once this season, showing great resilience. They average the third-most goals in the league and can certainly make it another frustrating night for a struggling Oilers defense.
Our prediction for Edmonton Oilers vs. Carolina Hurricanes: Hurricanes to win.
