Diana Shnaider of Russia takes on Katie Bouter of Great Britain for a spot in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 HSBC Championships on Thursday.
Ranked No.12 in the world, Shnaider trounced Magdalena Frech of Poland 6-4 6-1 to open her grass-court campaign. The Russian’s power game proved too much for her Polish foe, unleashing a flurry of massive forehands that helped her win the majority of the 24 points off her first serves. She also broke Frech four times while conceding only one service break.
Katie Bouter outslugged Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia 7-6(4) 1-6 6-4 to reach the round of 16. The Brit overcame 9 double faults by capturing 31 points on her first serves and 22 points on the second. She also converted on all six breakpoint chances, giving just enough edge to sneak past Tomljanovic.
