The Tigers' winning streak, which began with a sweep of the Astros, ended at five wins after they lost the final game of their six-game homestand against the Royals. The Tigers lost 8-10 on Sunday, in part due to an unfortunate inning by Flaherty, who allowed six ERs in the third inning.
However, good things continue to happen for this combative Tigers team. One of the team's strongmen, Greene, hit his 31st home run of the season, but the bottom of the lineup also responded with Jahmai Jones, who went 2-for-4 and hit his 11th home run of the season.
Starting Monday, the Tigers face a new series against the Athletics. The A's pitching succumbed to the Mariners' offense in the final game of the series on Sunday, but Rookie of the Year candidate Jacob Wilson hit a home run in the loss. Nick Kurtz, another A's player, is the heavy favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award.
