The Detroit Red Wings (2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS) visit the New York Islanders (2-1-2 SU, 1-4 ATS) looking to get a handle on the defense. The Wings have played far too many offense-heavy games this season, only managing to slow down Nashville. In fact, Detroit hasn’t won a game yet against an Eastern Conference team because outside of Nashville, the Wings have allowed 15 goals in three games.
Things might not get better on Long Island, as the Islanders are used to putting home goals against the Wings. In their past four meetings with Detroit, New York has lit the lamp 15 times, picking up five points in those games. The Isles’ main thing to do has been to just put anything on the scoresheet: when they score, the Isles have five points in three games.

New York has to get the penalty kill fixed. At 62.5%, the Islanders have the worst penalty kill in the NHL. The one thing the Islanders do have going for them is that they don’t take a lot of penalties. They’ve only taken 12 penalties on the year, making them one of the least penalized squads in the NHL.
Detroit also struggles with the penalty kill, ranking second-worst in the league. Basically, either team taking penalties is a death sentence, as the penalty kill just isn’t equipped to keep pucks out of the net. The Islanders shoot the puck more often when they get hold of it, and the Red Wings just aren’t good enough at stopping pucks with or without the PK on the ice.
